Our family lives on a small farm (smallholding) just outside the village of Skipwith, around eight miles south of York. We’ve welcomed touring caravans here for many years and, in 2015, were very honoured to be named CL of the Year, with the award presented to us in London.

As caravan owners ourselves, we understand the little things that matter — the likes and dislikes of caravanners — and we’ve shaped our site with that in mind. We hope it’s a place where guests can relax, feel welcome, and enjoy the peace of the countryside.

Alongside our touring caravan site, we’ve since added two self-catering stays to Field House Farm: Owl Lodge, a spacious holiday lodge, and our Honey Pod, a cosy glamping retreat with a private wood-fired hot tub.

What can you expect to see while staying at our site?

We have a few farm animals including sheep, cows and chickens. If you visit us around Easter, you may see the newborn lambs, they are adorable!  Free range eggs are available from Spring to Autumn as well as homemade jams and chutneys (subject to availability).
We are also surrounded by wildlife including:

  • Common Buzzards (they fly most days, just listen and you’ll see them soaring above)
  • Red Kite – silent so you’ve got to keep an eye out for them
  • Owls (Barn, Little & Tawny) – listen out for them in the evening
  • Yellow Hammer – very timid birds but are seen regularly through the Summer
  • Woodpecker – an occasional visit from Woody, you can usually hear him in the distance
  • Redwing & Fieldfare – can be seen regularly through winter hopping across the fields
  • Partridges – they like to walk on the top of our hedge
  • Deer – occasionally you’ll see them graze on the edge of the woods nearby
  • Swallows – who have nests in our barns and emigrate in Autumn & return in Spring
  • Various garden birds and few tree sparrows

A short drive will take you to Skipwith Common, which includes some waymarked trails for you to enjoy.

Further afield

We’re lucky to be located close to the historic City of York, which offers great shopping, a wealth of attractions, and plenty to explore. From quaint independent shops to cobbled streets, there’s always something to see and do.
We’ve put together a Tourism page with ideas and inspiration to help you plan your visit.
